Singapore News blogs?

Does Singapore media support blogging? Or should I say can a Singaporean host a personal news site? I am sure many of us want to know about the degree of freedom
in news blogging in Singapore. Heard of Singaporeangle blogspot? Click here and read for yourself.

Here is an excerpt from one of the articles I read.

Finally, as a journalism educator, a (longer) word about whether this profession is worth bothering with. If you have no ties to Singapore, it is entirely rational to avoid practising journalism here. It is just too difficult. However, if you are a Singaporean with a love and respect for the written word, insatiable curiosity and a questioning mind, and a sense of duty to your community, the answer is equally clear: journalism in Singapore is challenging but still meaningful.

There are many different perspectives shared in this web blogs at Singapore angle and the articles are pretty good. I was quite astonished to find these articles, and somehow the horizon of Singapore journalism seems a little broader, even if it is confined to blogging.

Popular News sites and Blogging

Journalists from popular online news sites have their own news blogs, such as Nick Robinson’s newslog at Nick's log from BBC.

Today I came across an interesting entry on his site about Prime Minister Tony Blair inviting Big Brother celebrity “Shilpa” over to his palace for lunch. Nick Robinson's blog. Read the comments on this entry, smiles.

There is a section dedicated to entertainment blogs on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, the shallow end.

Have you heard of a pulsating site that monitors for you all the latest happenings on web blogs called blogpulse? I ran a search for news blogs and would like to share with you some related news blog links here.

Blogging Baghdad.

As I was trying to get into the truth of all the hype about Iraq occupation by America I came across a very interesting site. A totally different perspective from journalist reporting from Baghdad, this blog made me wonder if all the news we hear on the main stream media are indeed fabricated to such an extent.

Sometimes when you tell a lie thousands times people tend to believe it’s the truth, and I think that’s what happened in this Iraq occupation and many other stories in history. There is this particular entry on “Baghdad Burning” which caused a lot of emotional stir in me. riverbend blogspot

It brought my attention to many other stories we hear on TV and Radio. As a communication student for years now, I am aware of how the media gate keeping
can control the news headlines. But it is imperative that each one of us do not just take what is served and choose to do our reading. Now we have another medium to resort to. For more stories on Iraq occupation from a “different” perspectives, log onto different perspectives on Baghdad

Is there any other interesting news blogs that you have read recently, share it here with me.

Perspectives

A writer needs three things, experience, observations, and imagination, any two of which at times anyone of which, can supply the lack of the others.
William Faulkuer

Almost every other person I know of has some sort of a digital space out there. I am referring to the evolution of blogging. It’s so hot that it has even find its way through the online news sites.

Take a look at any of your favorite online news sites, say BBC,
or Guardian they have an entire section dedicated to blogs.

Now all this is interesting because hard news has always been under the scrutiny of media gatekeepers. Blogging challenges the idea of “gate keeping” by introducing subjective opinions on objective news. That’s what I call a real media evolution.

There are “good” and “bad” sides to any conceived idea and blogging is no exception. Too many opinions and perspectives on one subject make us question on the credibility of the source and confuses the reader. But on the positive note, it brings the truth to the average middle class man who has been so far depending only on mainstream media to tell him what is going on in his world. We are not talking about just the accuracy of the news but even “what” is reported as news and what is not. Now the reader chooses his own news and reads whosever perspective and views he likes and dislikes. All he has to do is make a search and bingo, “the truth is out there.”

This is my blog on "Journalism on the blog". Let us study together the different aspect of news blogs and how they are making an impact on the way news is being delivered and received today.
